How to Keep Citrus Fresh?

  • To keep fruit fresh for over a week, keep it in a crisping drawer of the fridge.
  • Avoid using plastic bags when storing fruits. Moisture can get trapped and promote mold growth.
  • Take the fruit out of the refrigerator for at least 15-20 minutes before eating to allow the fruit to warm up. Doing this will make it sweeter and the skin easier to peel.
  • Keep ripe and unripe fruits separate. This will keep the unripe fruit from ripening too quickly.

How to Store Citrus Fruit?

Refrigeration:

  • To properly refrigerate citrus, the fruit should be stored in a mesh bag, allowing airflow. This step will slow down the growth of mold, lesions, and softened rind. Different fruits may require different storage solutions.

Countertop:

  • For fruits like oranges and grapefruits that often get consumed within a week, placing them on the counter at room temperature will keep them sufficient. Depending on the climate you live in will determine the number of days that fruit will remain safe to eat.

Whether you put them in the fridge or on the countertop, the fruit should be kept dry.

What Are the Citrus Fruits?
