Shellfish FAQ

There is a lot that goes into shipping shellfish, and Prime Fresh Handling is here to answer all your shellfish FAQ shipping questions.

How Do You Pack Seafood for Shipping?

First, set down a frozen gel pack inside a sturdy foam box that is insulated for every 20 lbs of fresh shellfish delivery. The insulation is important because it slows the melting of the gel ice pack and keeps the product frozen.

What Are the Estimated Shipping Times?

Shipping times are often estimated and could take up to 3 or 4 days before the shellfish arrives at its final destination.

Does Dry Ice Keep Shellfish Frozen?

Dry ice is colder than regular ice, with an average temperature of -109.3 degrees Fahrenheit. This extreme temperature will quickly freeze the product and keep it frozen for up to 24 hours.

What Are the Proper Ways to Store Shellfish After Delivery?

Once our team has made a successful seafood delivery, fresh shellfish should be stored in an open container in a refrigerator. Then there should be a damp paper towel placed on top to maintain proper humidity since shellfish should NEVER be stored in water. It could lead them to spoil.
